'Ain't no Mountain high enough' for eight intrepid CSG employees - July 2009

Linda Grant, Chris Holder, Nigel Bolam, Christine Barnes, Elaine Robinson, Gemma Upton and Stuart Hansord together with Stuart’s sister, Ruth Crossley, Linda's son Darren Bradley and Elaine's husband, David, all endured a 6½ hour round trip to the top of Mount Snowdon on Saturday 25th July 2009 in aid of the road safety charity, BRAKE, raising in the region of £1600.

The day started well with most opting for the ‘Full Welsh Breakfast’ with extra black pudding, lamb chops and toast - just in case they did not return.

Prior to starting, equipment was checked by the guides with many found to be totally unprepared  - namely Chris and Gemma who had only brought the basics – boots, a climbing stick and chocolate – omitting to pack a hip flask or Skol!  Linda was suitably reprimanded for having insufficient water but made up for it by supplying everyone with an endless quantity of Werther’s Originals from her family size bag.

After the tension had died down the climb began - stopping 20 minutes later as everyone was shattered. The team took on board  sugary sweets and water to assist - and then bravely battled on.

As they entered the cloud level one or two questioned stopping for a wee, however it was not safe for all and privacy was minimal. One or two hoped for fog and blamed damp patches on the heat!

The descent was also painful and lengthy as everyone longed to see their families again. In the final stretch Elaine took the gamble and surged ahead ducking just at the gate to be first home.

Christine and Gemma advised that “there was nothing to it” and were prepared to go again when they had had a little sleep and dressed their blisters!

It had been a thoroughly enjoyable day in lovely weather and left everyone exhausted yet satisfied with their achievement.
