CSG sponsored Cavaliers play at Headingley during the Ashes - September 2009
Local firm Consultant Services Group’s sponsorship of Mirfield Junior Parish Cavaliers Cricket Team helped make it possible for the young team to take part in the ‘Quick Cricket Tournament’ held over lunchtime at Headingley during the recent Ashes Test.
Local businessman Allen Baxter is Chairman of the cricket team and through his business dealings with CSG approached the company’s Chief Executive, Simon Midgley, for sponsorship of a brand new junior cricket squad.
Allen stated that although the ‘Cavaliers’ have been around for a good while the junior cricket team is something that comes and goes. As the children get older the parents ability to commit to the time required to keep the team “alive” becomes harder. However, this year a great effort has been made to invest time into building a junior squad and through the efforts of Paul Brooke - or ‘Coach P’ as his players like to call him - the team has gone from strength to strength with the Cavaliers now having an under 9’s, 11’s and 15’s team.
“Once Allen had approached me I couldn’t really say no” said Simon Midgley. “We pride ourselves on being part of the local community and as one of the area’s largest employers we appreciate that any attempt to get today’s children playing sport and having structured pastimes is important. They are, after all, our future - hopefully some will be the future for English cricket – and we were delighted to be a part of this once in a life time event.”
